Drina National Park is located in the middle course of the Drina River, i.e. in the eastern part of Republic of Srpska and Bosnia and Herzegovina, in the municipality of Srebrenica. It covers the area of Stari Vlah which is the part of the inner belt of the Dinaric Mountains. Altitude ranges from 291 to 1 265 meters.

By the decision of the Government of the Republic of Srpska, the Public Institution National Park "Drina" was established on February 22, 2018. 04 / 1-012-2-418 / 18 with its seat in Skelani, Srebrenica Municipality. Drina National Park is one of the youngest parks in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Based on literature data, research, personal knowledge and field visits, it has been determined on several occasions that this area is unique in terms of flora and vegetation. It includes a significant number of endemic, relict and rare species and communities and is a unique center of floristic, vegetation and ecosystem diversity. It is important to note that a significant number of vascular plant species have been recorded that are intended for protection by domestic and international regulations. The presence of Pančić's spruce (Picea omorika), which is an endemic and tertiary relict species, contributes to the exceptional value of the area. This species used to be widespread in Europe, and today its range is limited to the area around the middle course of the Drina. In Bosnia, it is widespread in the municipalities of Rogatica, Srebrenica, Foča, Čajniče and Višegrad. The most developed populations of Pančić spruce are present in several localities (Gostilja, Stolac, Radomišlja, Žepa, Gvozna), and in Serbia it survives and grows on Mount Tara, where it is protected within the National Park. Cracks in limestone rocks in the canyon of the Drina River represent habitats where the largest number of species of endemic and relict character is present. A slightly smaller number is present on limestone cliffs, and a small number in mesophilic and hygrophilous forests.

Based on many years of field research and existing literature data in the area of NP "Drina", about 635 taxons have been established.

Of the faunal values, the most prominent are the brown bear (Ursus arctos), the chamois (Rupicapra rupicapra), and the golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos).

Osat construction

The importance of Osat architecture, its influence and role in the Serbian history of creativity should also be emphasized.

The people of Osat founded the so-called "Dinaric" type of Serbian house, from which all other variants of the village house will emerge. Also known as Osaćanka, this typical building of folk architecture consists of a house and a room. Osaćanka has a steep roof covered with shingles and finely worked wooden beams, which are often decorated with woodcarvings. It is always buried on a slope, so in most cases there is a basement under the room as a storage room. The outer wall of the basement is usually lined with hewn, rustic stone.

The most important economic activities in the national park that should be developed and improved in the coming period are tourism, as the main carrier of development. The primary goal is to preserve this area, which has been preserved in the previous period and which has great natural value, and to improve its protection.

A special aspect is dedicated to the development of eco-tourism, because today this type of tourist offer is on the rise in the world, and the demand is great. Eco-tourism that is concentrated on the promotion of natural values according to the principles of sustainable development and environmental protection.
